Utah Log Cabin Republicans
Fighting for Republican Values and Equal Rights
President’s Message
Welcome to the Utah Log Cabin Republicans’ new website. This is the place for all fair-minded, fiscal conservatives to join together to support and defend basic Republican values and policies within the GLBTQ community. We are not part of the “religious right” social conservatives, nor are we a bunch of “left wing liberals”. We are moderate Republicans – fiscally conservative and socially liberal.
Utah Log Cabin Republicans is the gay and lesbian Republican caucus of Utah, representing all of the GLBTQ community to our Republican leaders and friends. We are working with the Governor’s office, our state and county party leaders, and with our elected state and local representatives to enlighten and educate them on the primary issues facing the GLBTQ community.
We also support the efforts of other GLBTQ organizations, such as the Human Rights Campaign, Equality Utah, the Stonewall Democrats, All-for-One, the Utah Pride Center, etc. in getting our message of inclusion and equal rights to our elected officials. We participate in the state and county Republican conventions, members of our Board sit on county and state party boards, and we urge and encourage all like-minded individuals to get involved in your local precincts.
To make real change in Utah happen we all need to become more active at a grassroots level. We are actively seeking fair minded people from all over the state to become precinct chairs, and county and/or state delegates to the Republican Party. This is where the people that will be our state representatives are chosen to run in the November elections from the Republican Party. If we want change to happen, this is where true “grassroots” activity is the most powerful. WE can make a difference – a very huge difference – by being involved in our local election process.
Utah LCR is a member driven, member supported 501(c)(4) political organization, and an affiliate member of the national Log Cabin Republican caucus.
Utah Log Cabin members believe in the Republican principles of federalism, limited government, non-intrusive government, freedom of religion, family independence, strong national defense, free market economics, and strong policy to prevent and punish crime. Furthermore, we hold the following beliefs:
-
We believe constitutions should not be amended due to sudden, reactionary public sentiment when the laws in question have not been tested.
-
We believe all Americans should be eligible to serve our country in the armed forces, regardless of partner preference.
-
We strongly support family structures within the gay population. We support the traditional family, as almost all of us have originated from them. Gays and lesbians are also part of the family. The family is weakened when gay family members are excluded.
-
We believe government should not impede the formation of families, and that same-sex couples should be allowed to form families by adoption or surrogate parenting. Many gays in Utah are already biological parents.
-
We believe government should not be used to interfere with the global debate within religious organizations about the moral legitimacy of same-sex relationships. Government should be accommodating to the different religious views on sexual orientation.
Our strategy is to make the case for equal civil rights for everyone regardless of partner preference. We must take our case to the people of Utah and the elected officials who represent them. Those of us who are gay need not abandon our conservative values and political principles. Neither need we abandon our political party.
