Utah Log Cabin Republicans

Fighting for Republican Values and Equal Rights

President’s Message

Welcome to the Utah Log Cabin Republicans’ website. This is the place for all fair-minded, fiscal conservatives to join together to support and defend basic Republican values and policies within the GLBTQ community. We are not part of the “religious right” social conservatives, nor are we a bunch of “left wing liberals”. We are moderate Republicans – fiscally conservative and socially liberal. ....

Hello Friends and Visitors,
Welcome to our website! Here we are in the middle of 2011 with much activity all around – some good and some not so good. Our economy is hurting, as are many of you personally. The 2012 Presidential Campaign has already begun and we still have servicemen and women serving and dying in foreign combat. And if you bought gold or silver years ago you are probably thanking the gods for bringing your wealth to new highs. (I wish I had)!
As for LCR, we have never stopped working to open more doors and work with more Republicans throughout the state, to bring full equality to all Utah citizens. Members of our chapter sit on the Salt Lake County Executive Committee, serve as State Delegates, County Delegates and Precinct Chairs all over the state, and have been actively involved in various political campaigns including some running for office. But there is still much to do and we need all the help we can get from all fair minded citizens.
Check out our events page as we have some exciting things happening this year, and will be updating this section regularly all during the 2012 campaign season.  Our annual reception at the Governor’s mansion will be held on September 19th. It is by invitation only and we will have to limit the number of guests this year, as we exceeded the capacity of the mansion last year and the Fire Marshall would not be happy if we did that again this year. We will also be holding a few fund raising events throughout the year to raise money for LCR and the Utah LCR Pac so we can financially help out pro-equality candidates in the upcoming elections.
The first place that we can all get involved is to attend the bi-annual March caucuses and run for precinct offices, such as state and/or county delegate. Because of the way the Utah caucus system works LGBTQ people can have a HUGE voice is what happens at the conventions and who gets elected to run for office from the Republican Party.
Two years ago the Tea Party members did exactly that – got themselves elected to be state delegates from precincts all over the state – and voted out of office Senator Bob Bennett, and put Senator Mike Lee onto the November ballot. And since he was the Republican candidate he was pretty much guaranteed to win that seat. This year we will have four US Congressional seats up for grabs and if we all get involved and become state delegates we can help choose who those Congressmen and/or women will be. And some of those already running for these seats are not the most LGBTQ friendly politicians.
We also have many city and county council seats to vote on this year, which are non-partisan positions, and in 2012 there will be even more local elections that will need our attention, like the Salt Lake County Mayor’s office. So plan now to be at the caucus meetings next March and help make a real difference in Utah Politics.
